I downloaded "Quran in todays' english" from amazon and from what I've read so far, its amazing:
"The Qur’an is what it is. It claims to be of divine origin, and it challenges people to ponder over its verses and to consider the world around them as proof of God’s existence. It is a book that has influenced the lives of countless millions of people over the last 1,400 years, even as it continues to do so today for one fifth of the world’s population. If approached with respect, it can reveal new insights and interesting nuggets of knowledge to even the most skeptical of readers. The Qur’an is, in its own words, the completion of God’s favor to humanity"
"One of the features that Muslims consider to be miraculous is the fact that the verses are quasi-poetic in nature in that they often follow precise rhyme and metre. One can hear this distinctly when listening to the Qur’an being read aloud in its original Arabic. So not only was the Qur’an conveying a message, but it was also acting as a kind of spellbinding entertainment. It delivered its message and left people in wonderment of its beauty at the same time! This precise poetic flavor is nearly impossible to translate into another language..."
"The Qur’an tells stories, asks its listeners to ponder over issues, and tries to reach them with a message and a way of looking at life. Imagine taking the best elements of all of these types of sources and coming away with an epic poem that tells the story of humanity and its relationship with God through various episodes, alternating subjects, stories within stories and passages of lyrical, rhythmic song. Then you’ll understand why Muslims are so enamored with the message of the Qur’an in its original Arabic: it’s a really unique presentation!"
"To get a sense of the tone and style of the Qur’an, especially how it sounds when it is orally recited to an audience that understands what the words mean, imagine mixing the rhythm of traditional American ballads from the nineteenth century with the style and flair of classic Irish songs from days gone by, mixed with exhortations from the great speeches of such figures as Cicero, Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther King, Jr., or Abraham Lincoln..."
"In short, the Qur’an is a personal letter from God to you, asking you to become something more than you thought you could be: someone whom God loves and someone who loves His world so much that he or she will do everything in their power to take good care of it..."
"Whatever way you approach the Qur’an, may your mind be enlightened, may your heart be steadied and may your faith in God grow.
Ameen. Let it be so."
