Today was the first time I've taken a sickie (a sick day off from work)...It feels weird having nothing to do at home except lying in the bed and sleeping off the virus or whatever it is...I think one shouldn't get sick alone atleast when there is no one to take care of you especially if you're a spoiled pampered brat...I wish I could have some chicken corn soup...Mom used to make it whenever I had a sore throat...Chalo, I can atleast make one simple thing which seems to be the panacea to all ills afflicting me: "Warm milk with honey"...Since I had nothing to do, I researched the health benefits of milk and honey (;
Stamina: A glass of milk and honey daily in the morning is known to improve the stamina of people. While milk contains proteins, honey contains the necessary carbohydrates required for effective metabolism. Milk and honey provides strength to all including children and old men and women.
Anti Bacterial: Research has shown than milk and honey have higher activity on staphylococcus bacteria than milk or honey taken alone. It is also believed that honey added to warm milk cures constipation, flatulence and intestine disorders. It is also good for treating respiratory disorders such as cold and cough.
Anti Aging: Milk and honey combination acts not only on the skin but also on the entire body by making it agile and youthful. People in many ancient civilizations including Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and Indians drank milk and honey to preserve their youth. Since milk and honey ensure long life, the combination was known as the elixir of life.
Religious symbolism: Heaven or Paradise as per the Holy Quran is said to have streams of milk and honey which seem to be the premium heavenly blessings...Infact the benefits of honey and milk to the human body are so enormous that the phrase “land of milk and honey” meaning “a place which has plenty” is commonly used. Jerusalem is referred to as the land of milk and honey in the Old Testament.
So yea...When your sick and in bed just drink warm milk with honey :)
